PETNECK2

A new strategy to follow up head and neck cancer (HNC) patients at 1 year from end of treatment has been developed. This follow-up is guided by a PET-CT scan to determine the risk of cancer coming back (called recurrence) and allows low risk HNC patients to have patient-led follow-up, giving them more control over their follow-up appointments.

Patient-led follow-up involves:

An initial PET-CT scan to check for signs of cancer recurrence
An education session to learn how to check yourself
An app or booklet to help you check regularly for changes and symptoms
A guaranteed appointment to check any concerns you may have

The programme involves a feasibility study, followed by a clinical trial, comparing the new PET-CT guided, patient-led follow-up with current routine follow-up.
